First Air offers services for passengers with special needs including those in wheelchairs, those requiring extra space, those traveling with children or pets and those with special dietary requirements.
Infants are under 2 years of age and can travel free when not occupying their own seat (one infant per adult passenger).
Children under 12 years old may travel on a flight if they are accompanied by a passenger at least 12 years of age. One child under 2 years old may travel for free with each fare-paying passenger over the age of 12, provided they occupy the same seat or an adjacent seat.
Children under the age of 12 can travel at a special child fare of 10% off the applicable rate.
Children under 5 years old traveling alone are not accepted under any condition.
Children ages 5 to 11 inclusive, traveling alone are considered Unaccompanied Minor (UM) and are only accepted with the following conditions:
Although First Air cannot guarantee a peanut, nut or food allergy free environment on any of our flights, we will endeavor to put safeguards in place to protect our passengers.
We are sensitive to the concerns of allergy sufferers, and we understand that some of our customers may not wish to be seated too close to a cat or small dog during their flight. For this reason, we ask that, if you are an allergy sufferer, you advise the check-in agent or gate agent prior to your flight departure to ensure you are not next to a customer travelling with a pet. We will make reasonable effort to move you or the pet and pet owner.
In the instance where passengers have self-identified an allergy at the time of booking or check in, an announcement will be made by the crew requesting the consideration of the other passengers to avoiding consumption of foods containing that allergen. While we cannot guarantee compliance of the request, we will do our best to inform other passengers on your flight.
First Air is pleased to provide meals, including hot meals on many of our flights. Although we have instructed our caterers to avoid nut products, we do not make any guarantee that any food served on board is nut free. We cannot control the many caterers and suppliers and sub-suppliers in this regard. Any passenger that is allergic or sensitive to products that may be found in the cabin is responsible to bring the proper medication and to have the proper protection with them.
In addition to the regular and gourmet in-flight meals and with a minimum of 24 hours notice, First Air is also pleased to offer a selection of special meals. Please let your travel agent, or reservation agent know at the time of booking. Please note this service may be limited on some routes.
Upon request, First Air has oxygen service available on all flights. The service charge for oxygen is $100.00 plus applicable taxes (up to a maximum of $114.98 inclusive). Twenty-four (24) hours notice is required.
First Air does not accept personal oxygen bottles in the cabin. Some personal oxygen may be shipped as cargo with advance arrangements.
Our oxygen bottles have a flow rate of 2 LPM or 4LPM. At a rate of 2LPM the O2 bottle will last approximately 6.5 hours. At a rate of 4LPM the O2 bottle will last approximately 3.5 hours.
First Air will carry the following aids without charge:
Some mobility aids such as battery powered wheelchairs and scooters may be restricted on some aircraft types, please be sure to mention your requirements upon making your reservation.
Sporting items will be accepted as checked baggage, and when in excess, each item will be subject to the excess baggage charge for a single piece. Please ensure that the items do not exceed the maximum weight of 45kg (100lbs) or size of 292cm to be accepted as checked baggage.
Bicycles will be accepted as checked baggage with a limited release. Passenger is responsible for proper packaging of the bicycle. We highly recommend having the bicycle properly packaged in a box or bike bag with the handle bars turned, the tires partially deflated and the pedals removed for better protection.
Bicycles will not be included in determining the free baggage allowance and will always be subject to an excess baggage charge of $75.00 per piece + applicable tax
First Air will accept properly packed musical instruments for carriage as checked baggage, subject to all excess fees (overweight, extra item) if applicable.
Changes in air pressure, long flights or delays may compromise perishable items. First Air assumes no liability for any perishable items or the damage that they cause.
When transporting fragile items, passengers must ensure safe packaging with adequate cushioning material to prevent any breakage.
First Air assumes no liability for fragile, valuable, or perishable articles including (but not limited to) money, jewelry, cameras, video and electronic equipment, silverware, business documents, samples, paintings, carvings, furs, manuscripts, or similar items.
First Air will accept sporting trophies such as animal horns and antlers. Please note that antlers will not be included in determining the free baggage allowance and will always be subject to a charge of CAD $100.00 for each full rack and CAD $25.00 for each split rack one way.
When traveling between Kuujjuaq and Montreal on the “LITOW” type fares, the charge will be of CAD $100.00 for each full rack and two split rack at no charge.
Antlers should be packaged properly to avoid damages.
Stretchers can be accommodated on all aircraft types. Prior arrangements must be made through First Air reservations with 24 hours notice.
Professionally trained service animals, which are assisting customers with disabilities, are carried on all aircraft types in the cabin at no charge. Service animals are permitted to remain on the floor at the passenger’s feet as long as they are properly harnessed. First Air will require written proof that a professional service animal institution has trained their service animal.
First Air will accept your live animal on your flight for transport in the cabin or in the baggage compartment. Arrangements must be made a minimum of 24 hours prior to departure by contacting First Air Reservations at 1-800-267-1247. For all Summit operated flights, they are very restricted to having pets in the Cargo hold. They are limited to taking only 1 medium dog 35lbs, height of kennel cannot exceed 26″ high. The number of animals accepted is limited per flight and may require the modification of your reservation to allow us to accommodate your pet. The following conditions must be followed:

First Air provides itinerary information via Email using the TripCase® program. Adding an email address to the Passenger Reservation generates the itinerary. Reservations can be made via the First Air website, Phone/TTY Reservations Centre, any First Air airport location or your local travel agency. First Air can also provide flight and itinerary information via SMS or voice sent to your computer pager or mobile phone.
An attendant who accompanies and cares for a passenger with a disability during flight, will not be charged any fare when accompanying a fare paying passenger, but will be charged applicable taxes, fees and charges. A medical certificate for the assisted passenger will be required.
First Air will provide assistance on departure and on arrival to transport baggage between the airport terminal and curbside areas.
First Air will provide our passengers with assistance through the terminal facility with baggage/customs and immigration and to their departure/connection flight or to curbside ground transportation.
At First Air, safety is our first priority. Our professionally trained inflight crew will give personal safety briefings to those persons with special needs prior to takeoff. Additional service briefings may also be given enroute.
Pre-reserved seating is available at no additional charge and can be arranged during the booking process or through reservations. Special seating can be arranged – First Air has removable armrest for the ease of transfer to the passenger seat. The removable armrest seats are located near the washrooms.
Pre-boarding is available to passengers traveling with small children and those who require assistance or extra time to board the aircraft.
